The City of South Pasadena has officially launched its redistricting process with an updated website that has all the information and resources the community needs to get involved: southpasadenaca.gov/redistricting2021.
Every 10 years, local governments use new census data to redraw their district boundaries to reflect changing local populations. Members of the South Pasadena community are encouraged to participate in the redistribution process to ensure that district lines respect neighborhoods, history and geographic features. The webpage includes general information on the redistribution, a tentative timeline of participation opportunities, frequently asked questions, and resources for writing maps and sharing feedback on previously drawn maps. Residents are encouraged to visit the website to share information on the redistribution, submit comments and possibly draw maps for consideration by city council.
The first of four legally required public hearings is scheduled to take place on November 17, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. during the regular city council meeting in the council chamber and broadcast virtually. Residents have the opportunity to learn more about the redistribution process, review the current composition of districts, and provide feedback on where district boundaries should be drawn.
The City is also organizing two community workshops to involve the public in the redistribution process. The first workshop is scheduled for October 28, 2021 at 6 p.m. via Zoom. At community workshops, the public will receive training on the mapping tools that will be available and an opportunity to provide feedback on communities of interest.
As the Redistribution process progresses, the City will continue to update the Redistribution website to include additional details on future public hearings, mapping opportunities, new FAQs, and more.
