WhatsApp is working on a bunch of features and is expected to release them in the near future. The company reportedly plans to add a new option for the last time, a new endangered chat feature and a redesigned group info page. WhatsApp may also soon allow you to send videos or images in high resolution. Read on to find out more.
WhatsApp should soon receive 5 new features
New option for the last view: In the near future, WhatsApp will add the ability to hide last view for a specific contact. This feature was spotted by WaBetaInfo and it is expected to reach the stable version soon. The quoted source indicated that the new option will be made available to iOS and Android users.
The messaging service is configured to add a “My contacts except” option in the privacy settings, which will allow users to enable last view for specific contacts. This feature will come in handy when you don’t want to show certain people the last time you were online on WhatsApp. It’s important to note that if you don’t share your last seen with anyone, you won’t be able to see the last seen of others.
Endangered Discussions: We may also see a new chat feature disappear soon. According to WaBetaInfo, this mode will be available for both one-on-one and group chats on WhatsApp. This feature is an extension of the already existing endangered messages feature.
The next dying chat feature will “automatically convert new threads to ephemeral chat.” It can be found in the privacy settings. After enabling it, all messages from each new chat or group would disappear after a short period of time.
If someone does not want all of their messages deleted, then they will have to turn off the disappearing chats feature. The quoted source says that WhatsApp will notify users when disappearing messages mode is activated in a new chat. The feature was recently spotted in WhatsApp Beta 184.108.40.206.
Group Icon Editor, Redesigned Group Info Page: The Facebook-owned company is also working on a new group icon editor feature, which was spotted in the beta of Android 220.127.116.11. The new feature will allow users to quickly create icons for groups, when they don’t have a picture. We will also be able to choose the background color of the icon. WhatsApp could also offer optional emojis and stickers.
Besides the group icon editor function, the messaging service is also working on the redesign of the group info page, and users can see the chat and call buttons in the foreground. This overhaul was spotted in beta version 18.104.22.168 of WhatsApp for iOS, according to WaBetaInfo. The new design appears to offer larger buttons for chat, audio and video calls. Admins can also share the invite link. Both features could be available soon.
High resolution videos or photos: WhatsApp strongly compresses videos and photos to help users quickly send them to their contacts. However, not many people are happy to send poor quality media. According to WaBetaInfo, the company will soon bring a new feature to the app that will allow users to select the download quality of the video or photo. The report suggests that users will soon be able to choose between a “Best Quality” mode, a “Data Saving” mode, and an Automatic mode that will determine the quality of the video clips you share.
Sticker images: WaBetaInfo recently reported that the messaging app is planning to add a new feature, which will allow users to convert their images into stickers. When the feature is rolled out to users, they will see a new sticker icon next to the caption bar when they upload a new image to the app.
When you select this icon, WhatsApp will send the image as a sticker and not as a normal image. The quoted source suggested that users will be able to check whether the image you submitted is a sticker or not. This feature is currently under development and is available in Desktop Beta 2.2137.3.
